What is Recreational Softball?
The Recreational season is played in the spring. This season is meant to develop our athletes. Girls will learn the rules, techniques, and mechanics of softball. We will abide by ASA Rules, but also have drafted some "local rules", too. You can check these out on the Local Rule Exceptions tab above. We also hope to teach life lessons such as respect for all (our self, our teammates, our coaches, our parents, and the officials), perseverance when the game gets tough, and dedication to being there because every player matters.
*Exceptions to local play:
10U, 12U and 14U divisions may interleague with other local leagues.
Where/When is Rec Ball played?
The Spring/Recreational season is played primarily on local 4S fields. This includes the 4S Ranch Sports Park located at 16118 4S Ranch Parkway and Stagecoach Field located at 10265 Camino San Thomas (both in zip code 92127). There are on average two games a week, with a minimum of one practice. Games will be played both during the school week and on the weekends. The practice schedule will be posted on the tab above. (Note that on the practice schedule, we may also use the local elementary school fields for practices.)
Who Can Play Rec ball?
All girls are welcome to play 4S Ranch Softball. We will draft girls from ages 5 - 14 for the 2013 season. We will hold mandatory assessments on January 12, 2013 so that we may form balanced teams. 6U players are not assessed, and we will do our best to honor requests for friends to play together at the 6U level.
We will field teams at each of these divisions: 6U (T-Ball), 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U. Your daughter's birth year determines what division she'll be in. The breakdown is as follows:
T-Ball - 2006 and 2007
8U - 2004 and 2005
10U - 2002 and 2003
12U - 2000 and 2001
14U - 1998 and 1999
If your daughter is interested in playing up a division, please note this on your registration form. You will not be permitted to change the age division in the online system - it is based on birthdate. Girls who are interested in playing up must assess (January 12, 2013) at both age divisions so that she can be placed in the most appropriate division based on her skill set.
Who Will Umpire the Games?
Board members as well as moms and dads from the league who have gone through ASA Umpire training will umpire the Rec season games. These volunteers will ump 10U, 12U, and 14U games. Please show your neighborly spirit and thank him/her after each game. These moms and dads from the community are volunteering their time. (If one of these volunteers cannot make a game, we will bring in an ASA trained umpire.)
Additionally, a few of our 12U and 14U girls will be given the wonderful opportunity to umpire 8U and 10U games. This helps our league in various ways. It gives our older girls a bird's-eye view of the game, which in turn makes them better players. It builds a passion in our younger players to see older girls behind the plate.
